Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has introduced a new mechanism to ensure that court-ordered maintenance and alimony payments reach wives and children on time.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed that maintenance amounts owed by State Government employees who fail to comply with court orders will now be deducted directly from their salaries.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, several such cases came to light during public grievance hearings, where women and children sought government intervention over the non-payment of maintenance despite court orders.
Under the new guidelines, the Drawing and Disbursement Officer (DDO) will deduct the court-mandated amount while preparing the employee’s monthly salary bill and transfer it directly to the beneficiary’s bank account.
The government also plans to integrate the payment mechanism with the Human Resources Management System (HRMS) to ensure better monitoring, transparency and compliance.
The move is aimed at preventing delays in court-ordered maintenance payments and providing greater financial security to eligible beneficiaries.
