Odisha Plans Gradual Electrification Of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation Bus Fleet

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has announced plans to gradually convert all buses operated by the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) into electric vehicles as part of its push for environmentally sustainable and cost-effective public transport.

Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena said the initiative is aligned with the broader vision of both the state and Central governments to reduce pollution, promote clean energy mobility and lower fuel expenditure.

He stated that ministers in the state government are also adopting electric vehicles and reducing convoy sizes as part of efforts to encourage sustainable transportation practices.

Officials said the government is simultaneously working on expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure across Odisha to support the transition toward EV-based public mobility.

The state also plans to provide support and incentives to vehicle manufacturers shifting towards electric vehicle production in order to strengthen the EV ecosystem and accelerate adoption.

The move is expected to contribute to reduced carbon emissions, lower operational costs and improved urban transport sustainability across the state.
