Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha has revived its metro rail project, proposing a revised plan to link Puri, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack in a single urban transit corridor.
Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra stated that the metro system will be introduced in a new format, indicating a redesign of the earlier proposal. He clarified that the project had been put on hold rather than cancelled, and that preparatory processes are actively underway.
The proposed corridor is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth by integrating key urban and pilgrimage centres. Officials also noted that the project will require the development of supporting infrastructure, including alternative road networks, along with assistance from the central government.
The revival signals the state’s renewed focus on modern urban mobility solutions as part of its broader development strategy.
