Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of International Workers Day, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a series of labour welfare measures in Odisha, including a hike in daily wages and new social security initiatives.
The government announced a ₹10 per day increase in variable dearness allowance, effective April 1, leading to revised wage rates across different skill categories of workers.
Among the key initiatives, the Chief Minister introduced the ‘Dalkhai Scheme’, aimed at ensuring year-round employment opportunities. Efforts are also underway to expand social security coverage for unorganised workers through the Shramik Saathi app.
Highlighting ongoing efforts, the CM stated that over five lakh construction workers have been registered, with ₹541 crore already disbursed as financial assistance. He also laid the foundation for 50 new labour offices to strengthen administrative outreach.
In addition, ₹150 crore has been sanctioned for various worker welfare benefits, and five labour leaders were felicitated during the event.
The announcements underscore the state government’s focus on improving labour conditions, enhancing social protection, and strengthening welfare mechanisms for workers across sectors.
