Odisha STA Allows Both Online and Offline Payment of E-Challans to Improve Accessibility

Bhubaneswar: In a move aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for vehicle owners, the State Transport Authority (STA) of Odisha has announced that e-challans for traffic violations can now be paid both online and offline. The decision is expected to benefit people who face difficulties with digital-only payment systems.

The STA has instructed all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across the state to accept cash payments for pending e-challans. Designated officers at RTOs will handle these transactions, issue official receipts to violators, and ensure that payment records are updated online in real time.

For those opting for digital payments, e-challans can continue to be paid through the Transport Department’s official platforms, including the mParivahan mobile application and the Parivahan e-challan website. Authorities have reiterated that payments should be made only through these authorised channels or directly at RTO offices.

The transport authority has also cautioned citizens to remain vigilant against cyber fraud and hackers. Officials warned that fraudulent links and fake payment portals are often circulated, and vehicle owners should verify the authenticity of websites and apps before making any payment.

According to the STA, the introduction of an offline payment option is aimed at ensuring wider reach, especially for those without easy access to smartphones or digital banking facilities. The move is part of the government’s broader effort to make transport-related services more inclusive and citizen-friendly while maintaining transparency in enforcement and collections.

Officials believe the dual payment system will help clear pending e-challans more efficiently and reduce inconvenience to the public, while strengthening compliance with traffic regulations across Odisha.
