Odisha to Operationalise 23 Truck Terminals for Safer Highways

Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha is planning to operationalise 23 truck terminals by the end of May as part of efforts to improve highway safety and reduce accidents caused by unauthorised roadside parking of heavy vehicles.

The terminals, strategically located near national highways, will provide dedicated parking spaces along with lodging and logistics support facilities for truck drivers and transport operators.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at addressing a major safety concern, as trucks parked along highways often contribute to traffic congestion and road accidents, especially during nighttime.

To accelerate the rollout, the state government is reportedly seeking cancellation of the existing tender process involving National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) and plans to appoint a new agency for faster operationalisation.

Authorities believe the project will not only strengthen road safety but also improve working conditions and convenience for long-haul transport drivers across the state.
