Bhubaneswar: With just two days left for the curtain to rise on the historic Baliyatra, preparations are in full swing across Cuttack. The district administration is giving final touches to the arrangements to ensure that this year’s edition of the iconic fair — one of Asia’s largest open-air festivals — is more vibrant, immersive, and memorable than ever.
In a bid to bring fresh experiences to visitors, organisers have introduced several innovative attractions this year, including an anamorphic 3D screen, an experience zone, electric dhol performances, a vintage car exhibition, a filigree (tarakasi) art gallery, a 5D theatre, and water sports on the Mahanadi River. A spectacular laser light show will illuminate the riverfront for three consecutive evenings, adding to the festive splendour.
Officials confirmed that all major preparations have been completed, with special focus on crowd management, safety, and sanitation. From the inaugural day to the closing ceremony, visitors will have the chance to enjoy boating, rowing, canoeing, and kayaking, transforming the Mahanadi ghats into a hub of adventure and celebration.
The highlight of Baliyatra 2025 will be the themed pavilion, “Cuttack in Cuttack”, dedicated to Odia language and literature. The pavilion — currently receiving its final decorative touches — will host literary sessions, cultural discussions, and student-led events, all aimed at celebrating Odisha’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
Adding an artistic flourish, a magnificent sand sculpture of a traditional boat, measuring 30 feet wide and 10 feet tall, is being sculpted at the pavilion site — symbolising Odisha’s ancient maritime glory.
As excitement builds, residents and tourists alike eagerly await the opening of this year’s Baliyatra — a festival that continues to honour Odisha’s seafaring past while embracing the creative spirit of the present.
