Bhubaneswar: The Sisir Saras Mela-2026 concluded on a high note, registering a record business turnover of ₹30 crore and reaffirming its status as one of Odisha’s most significant platforms for rural and artisanal entrepreneurship. The fair attracted more than five lakh visitors over its duration, with around 400 stalls showcasing a wide range of handicrafts, handlooms, food products, and self-help group (SHG) innovations.
This year’s edition stood out with several new initiatives aimed at broadening its appeal and impact. Daily business workshops were organised to equip entrepreneurs and SHG members with practical skills in marketing, branding, and financial management. A dedicated Kids Zone, along with attractions such as a fashion show and a Kite Show, added a strong family-friendly dimension to the event.
The mela placed special emphasis on Odisha’s regional identity by prioritising products with Geographical Indication (GI) tags and items under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. This focus not only boosted sales of traditional products but also helped strengthen market linkages for local artisans and producers.
Evening cultural programmes emerged as a major highlight, featuring a vibrant mix of classical dance, martial arts, and folk performances from Odisha and other states. These programmes added to the festive atmosphere while celebrating India’s diverse cultural heritage.
With record footfall, strong sales, and an expanded experiential format, Sisir Saras Mela 2026 successfully combined commerce, culture, and capacity-building, reinforcing its role as a key driver of inclusive economic growth and cultural promotion in Odisha.
