Transporters Announce Three-Day Strike Across Delhi-NCR Over Increased Environment Compensation Cess

Bhubaneswar: Major transporters’ associations have announced a three-day strike across the Delhi-NCR beginning May 21 in protest against the Government of Delhi’s decision to increase the environment compensation cess on commercial vehicles.

The strike is expected to affect sections of freight movement, goods transportation and public transport operations across the National Capital Region.

Visuals from Ramlila Maidan showed large numbers of parked trucks and autorickshaws gathering in support of the protest call issued by transport unions and commercial vehicle operators.

Transporters have argued that the increase in cess will raise operational costs at a time when the sector is already facing higher fuel prices, maintenance expenses and economic pressure linked to rising transportation costs.

Industry representatives stated that the additional financial burden may directly affect small transport operators, truck owners and commercial drivers dependent on daily vehicle operations for income.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as disruptions in logistics and commercial movement could potentially affect supply chains and daily commuting across parts of Delhi and neighbouring urban centres.
