Agni-1 Missile Successfully Test-Launched From Odisha

Bhubaneswar: India on Friday successfully test-launched the nuclear-capable Agni-1 ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur as part of a routine training exercise conducted by the Strategic Forces Command.

The launch, carried out on May 22, 2026, successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile system, reaffirming the reliability and effectiveness of India’s strategic deterrence capability.

According to defence officials, the single-stage, solid-fuelled missile performed as expected during the exercise, meeting all mission objectives with precision. The test was conducted under established operational conditions and forms part of periodic user trials aimed at ensuring combat readiness.

The Agni-1 missile, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads. With a strike range of around 700 to 900 kilometres, the missile is designed to provide rapid-response strategic capability to the Indian armed forces.

The successful launch further strengthens India’s indigenous missile programme and highlights the country’s continued focus on maintaining a credible minimum deterrence posture in the region.

Chandipur, located along the Odisha coast, remains one of India’s key missile testing centres and has hosted several major defence trials in recent years.
