Bhubaneswar: The Central government is reportedly exploring the possibility of using aircraft of the Indian Air Force to transport question papers for the upcoming NEET-UG retest, as part of efforts to prevent leaks and ensure maximum security during the examination process.
The proposal comes in the aftermath of the NEET-UG paper leak controversy that led to the cancellation of the examination held on May 3 and prompted the government to strengthen safeguards for the re-test scheduled on June 21.
According to reports, the plan involves using Air Force aircraft to transport question papers directly from printing presses to examination centres across the country. The objective is to reduce handling points, minimise the risk of tampering and enhance security during transit.
The proposal was reportedly discussed at a high-level meeting attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, senior officials from the Education Ministry and officers of the Indian Air Force.
Officials said the government is examining multiple measures to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the NEET-UG retest and restore confidence in the examination system following the leak controversy.
However, no final decision has yet been taken on deploying Air Force aircraft for question paper transportation. Reports indicate that the proposal may be placed before Prime Minister Narendra Modi for consideration before a final approval is granted.
