Bhubaneswar: Odisha continues to reel under an intense cold wave, with temperatures plunging sharply across several regions and dense fog disrupting normal life. According to the Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF), Upper Barakamuda in Similipal recorded a freezing 0°C, while Chahala logged 2°C. Other forested pockets such as Bareipani and Gudugudia recorded 5°C, accompanied by icy winds and thick fog.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that cold wave conditions are prevailing in isolated pockets of the state. In the past 24 hours, 23 locations recorded minimum temperatures below 10°C. Udayagiri in the hilly belt was the coldest, recording 3°C, followed by Phulbani (5°C), Rourkela (5.1°C), and Jharsuguda (5.4°C).
Hill and northern districts remained particularly cold, with Daringbadi at 7°C, Keonjhar at 7.6°C, Sundargarh at 7.8°C, and Angul at 8°C. In the twin cities, Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum of 10.2°C, while Cuttack dipped to 9.6°C.
IMD has forecast a further fall of 1–1.5°C in night temperatures over the next three to four days, warning that cold wave conditions and dense fog are likely to persist. Regional IMD Director Manorama Mohanty said very dense fog was reported in Boudh and Nayagarh, while Bhawanipatna, Paralakhemundi, Phulbani, and Rayagada also experienced foggy conditions. Fog is expected to continue across the state for the next five days.
Authorities have issued advisories for Boudh, Nayagarh, and Koraput districts, urging residents to exercise caution, especially during early morning and night hours.
