Government of India Hikes Petrol, Diesel Prices In Four Metro Cities After Four Years

Bhubaneswar: Petrol and diesel prices have been increased in four major metropolitan cities for the first time in nearly four years amid rising global crude oil prices, geopolitical tensions and increasing fuel import costs.

The latest revision also includes a ₹2 per kg increase in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in Delhi and Mumbai.

Officials said the move comes after heavy financial losses faced by oil marketing companies due to the sharp rise in international crude prices and higher transportation and import expenses linked to ongoing geopolitical instability.

The government maintained that fuel supply across the country remains stable and assured citizens that there is no shortage of petroleum products despite global market volatility.

Industry observers noted that the price revision reflects mounting pressure on public sector oil companies as global energy markets continue to remain uncertain due to conflicts and disruptions affecting major oil-producing regions.

The increase is expected to impact transportation costs and could have broader implications for inflation and household fuel expenditure in urban centres.
