Bhubaneswar: Mohan Charan Majhi has been appointed as an observer by the Bharatiya Janata Party to oversee the process of selecting the new Chief Minister in West Bengal.
The decision, taken under the guidance of Amit Shah, assigns Majhi a key coordination role during the leadership transition. As an observer, he will facilitate discussions among elected party legislators and help ensure that the selection process is conducted smoothly and reaches a consensus.
Party sources clarified that observers do not directly choose the Chief Minister, countering viral claims circulating on social media. The final decision rests with the party’s elected MLAs, typically made during a legislative meeting, while observers function as neutral coordinators to streamline deliberations.
The new Chief Minister is expected to be sworn in on May 9, following the completion of internal party procedures.
The development is being seen as a significant moment, with an Odisha Chief Minister being entrusted with a strategic, national-level responsibility in overseeing leadership formation in another state.
