Bhubaneswar: The National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), in collaboration with the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), is establishing a state-of-the-art 30 MeV Medical Cyclotron Facility at its Jatni campus in Odisha.
The project is being jointly funded by the Department of Atomic Energy and the state government, and forms part of a broader integrated healthcare and research ecosystem. This includes plans for a Nuclear Medicine Hospital and the Centre for Medical and Radiation Physics (CMRP).
The facility will be the first of its kind in Odisha and is expected to significantly enhance capabilities in medical radioisotope production, which are critical for cancer diagnosis and treatment. It will also support nuclear medicine services, academic training, and advanced research in radiopharmaceuticals.
Experts note that the initiative will strengthen eastern India’s healthcare infrastructure, reduce dependence on external sources for radioisotopes, and promote translational research linking scientific discovery with clinical application.
The project marks a major step toward building a robust ecosystem for cancer care, education, and innovation in the region.
