Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) has cancelled the leave of all electricity department employees across the state in view of the sharp rise in power demand during the ongoing heat wave conditions.
According to official instructions issued by OPTCL, all previously sanctioned leave has been withdrawn with immediate effect, except maternity leave and emergency medical leave.
The corporation has also directed that no employee will be allowed to leave their headquarters until further orders.
The decision has been taken as electricity demand in the state has reached record-high levels due to extreme summer temperatures. Authorities said the move is aimed at preventing power disruptions and ensuring that the electricity transmission network remains fully operational during the peak demand period.
Officials stated that all employees have been asked to remain alert and prepared to respond quickly to any technical issues or emergencies to maintain uninterrupted power supply across the state.
Odisha, like several other parts of the country, has been witnessing intense heat wave conditions, leading to a significant increase in electricity consumption, particularly for cooling and domestic usage.
