Odisha Launches Model Village Mission And MAGY For Rural Transformation

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched two major rural development initiatives — the Model Village Mission and the Mahapurusha Adarsha Grama Yojana — aimed at transforming villages through improved infrastructure, better public services, and enhanced livelihood opportunities.

The initiatives seek to bridge the rural-urban development gap by ensuring the availability of urban-level amenities and integrated development facilities in villages across the state.

Under the Model Village Mission, the government plans to provide all essential basic amenities in every Gram Panchayat headquarters village by 2029. Officials said the programme will begin with a comprehensive baseline survey to assess existing infrastructure gaps and identify priority areas for intervention.

The mission focuses on improving critical facilities such as roads, drinking water supply, sanitation, electricity, healthcare, education, digital connectivity, community infrastructure, and public service delivery systems.

Meanwhile, the Mahapurusha Adarsha Grama Yojana (MAGY) has been designed to promote the holistic development of Gram Panchayats associated with eminent personalities and notable historical figures from Odisha.

Under MAGY, priority will be given to infrastructure creation, livelihood generation, skill development, tourism potential, cultural preservation, and community development projects in selected Gram Panchayats.

Officials stated that both initiatives will be implemented through coordinated efforts involving State-Level and District-Level Task Forces to ensure effective monitoring, planning, and execution.

The government also plans to achieve convergence of multiple central and state government schemes under the missions to maximize resource utilization and accelerate rural development outcomes.

Authorities said the initiatives are expected to improve quality of life in rural areas, strengthen local economies, reduce migration pressures, and promote inclusive and sustainable development across Odisha.
