BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government is set to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-integrated examination system and develop its own institutional ranking framework as part of a broader strategy to modernise the state’s higher education ecosystem.
The proposed AI-enabled examination system is aimed at enhancing transparency, security and efficiency in the conduct of examinations. The initiative comes amid growing concerns over question paper leaks and examination malpractices across the country.
Officials said the reform will explore the use of AI-based tools for question paper management, examination monitoring and automated evaluation of answer scripts, reducing human intervention and strengthening the integrity of assessment processes.
In another major initiative, the state plans to launch the Odisha Institutional Ranking Framework (OIRF), a state-specific ranking system designed to promote quality, accountability and competitiveness among higher education institutions.
The government has also set a target of ensuring that at least 50 per cent of higher educational institutions in the state achieve accreditation by 2029. Efforts will focus on improving academic standards, institutional governance and research capabilities.
As part of its long-term vision, Odisha intends to establish digital universities and create a dedicated purpose fund to support innovation, research and emerging technologies within the higher education sector.
The roadmap further emphasises internationalisation of higher education, promotion of interdisciplinary research and encouragement of studies related to indigenous knowledge systems and local heritage.
Education officials said the initiatives are intended to create a modern, technology-enabled and globally competitive higher education environment that equips students with future-ready skills while strengthening Odisha’s position as an emerging academic and research hub.
