Bhubaneswar: ORMAS has launched the “Summer Delight” watermelon fair in Bhubaneswar, bringing together farm-fresh watermelons and value-added products from 15 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) representing 10 districts of Odisha.
The 11-day fair, being held from May 7 to May 17, is expected to facilitate the sale of nearly 150 tonnes of watermelon and generate business worth around ₹30 lakh. The initiative has been designed to create direct market linkages between farmers and consumers, reducing dependence on intermediaries and improving returns for growers.
Officials said the fair is also aimed at encouraging the consumption of seasonal fruits and promoting healthy dietary habits during the summer season.
Participating farmers and FPOs are showcasing different varieties of watermelon along with related products, offering consumers fresh produce at competitive prices while ensuring fair value for producers.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods and expand market opportunities for farmer collectives across the state.
