Bhubaneswar: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has added Bhubaneswar as a new examination centre for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination-2026 in a move aimed at reducing pressure on existing centres and improving accessibility for candidates.
Bhubaneswar emerged as one of the most preferred among the newly introduced centres, receiving 10,656 applications from aspirants. The commission also introduced Kanpur and Meerut as additional examination locations for the prestigious recruitment examination.
With the inclusion of the three new centres, the total number of Civil Services Preliminary Examination centres across the country has increased from 80 to 83. Nearly 23,000 candidates collectively opted for the newly added locations, reflecting growing demand for expanded examination infrastructure.
The decision is expected to provide significant relief to aspirants from Odisha and neighbouring regions, many of whom previously had to travel long distances to appear for the examination.
The UPSC has also strengthened measures to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities candidates by prioritising allotment of their preferred examination centres wherever possible.
The Civil Services Examination conducted by the UPSC is among India’s most competitive national-level examinations, serving as the gateway for recruitment to premier services including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS).
