Bhubaneswar: Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is preparing to launch its Green SM electric cab service in India, marking the company’s entry into the country’s rapidly expanding EV mobility sector.
The service is expected to begin operations in the Delhi-NCR region with fares starting at around ₹8 per kilometre, significantly lower than the average pricing currently offered by ride-hailing platforms such as Ola and Uber.
The electric taxi operations will run under VinFast’s Green SM mobility platform, which already operates in Vietnam and several Southeast Asian markets using fully electric vehicle fleets. The company plans to deploy a company-owned EV fleet in India rather than depending heavily on third-party drivers and vehicle owners, a model commonly followed by most app-based cab aggregators.
According to the company, drivers associated with the platform could earn up to ₹40,000 per month. Recruitment for drivers and operational staff has reportedly already begun ahead of the official rollout.
The entry of Green SM is expected to intensify competition in India’s emerging electric cab segment, particularly at a time when EV ride-hailing demand is growing in major urban centres. Industry observers believe the development may also reshape the market following operational challenges faced by EV-focused cab platform BluSmart in recent months.
Apart from mobility services, VinFast is simultaneously expanding its broader electric vehicle ecosystem in India through manufacturing and dealership investments. The company has already announced plans for an EV manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and is exploring dealership expansion across multiple Indian cities.
India has emerged as a key strategic market for global EV manufacturers due to rising fuel costs, government incentives for electric mobility, and increasing consumer demand for sustainable transportation solutions.
