Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to popularise its rich culinary heritage, the Government of Odisha has announced a new scheme to support the establishment of authentic Odia cuisine restaurants across India, with financial assistance of up to ₹5 crore per project.
Capital Subsidy and Financial Incentives
Under the initiative, eligible entrepreneurs will receive a 30% capital investment subsidy (CAPEX), capped at ₹5 crore, to set up restaurants showcasing traditional Odia food.
To further ease operational costs, restaurants established outside the state will be eligible for electricity cost reimbursement for three years. The reimbursement will be:

Up to twice the monthly electricity bill

Subject to a maximum of ₹2 lakh per unit per month
Focus on Metro Cities and Tourist Hubs
The scheme will initially target major urban centres, including:

Mumbai

New Delhi

Bengaluru

Chennai
-
Kolkata
Up to five restaurants will be permitted in each of these metro cities.
Additionally, the initiative will cover key tourist destinations such as:

Agra

Varanasi
-
Goa
-
Kochi
-
Jaipur
Here, up to two restaurants per location will be supported.
Promoting Odia Culinary Identity
Officials said the initiative aims to bring traditional Odia cuisine to a national audience, while creating business opportunities for entrepreneurs and boosting cultural recognition.
By supporting restaurant infrastructure and reducing operational costs, the government hopes to establish a strong presence of Odia food in India’s culinary landscape, similar to other regional cuisines that have gained nationwide popularity.
