Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a decisive victory in Gujarat’s civic elections, winning control of all 15 municipal corporations across Gujarat. The outcome reinforces the party’s strong urban base and organisational dominance in one of its key political bastions.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had earlier made inroads in urban centres such as Surat, suffered a significant setback. Several of its candidates, including prominent leaders, were defeated, indicating a loss of momentum in areas where it had previously gained traction.
Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress continued to face challenges, failing to mount a strong contest in most corporations and further losing its foothold in the state’s urban political landscape.
The results underline BJP’s continued dominance in local governance in Gujarat, while raising questions over AAP’s strategy going forward and the Congress party’s ability to rebuild its urban support base.
