Cargo Vessel ‘Haji Ali’ Sinks Off Oman Coast After Suspected Drone Strike; All Indian Crew Rescued

Bhubaneswar: Cargo vessel Haji Ali, registered at Salaya Port in Devbhoomi Dwarka, sank off the coast of Oman following a suspected drone strike, raising fresh concerns over maritime security amid escalating tensions linked to the Iran–US conflict in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to officials, all 14 Indian crew members aboard the vessel were rescued safely by Omani authorities.

The ship was reportedly travelling from Somalia to Sharjah carrying livestock when the incident occurred early Wednesday near Limah on Oman’s northern coast.

Reports stated that at around 3:30 am, the vessel was struck by an unidentified explosive object believed to be either a drone or missile. The impact allegedly triggered a fire onboard, leading to severe instability before the cargo ship eventually sank into the sea.

The incident comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions and growing security concerns in strategic maritime corridors near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy and shipping route.

Authorities are expected to investigate the exact nature of the attack and the source of the suspected strike.
