Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the 150th program of the state-level ‘Vande Mataram’ initiative at Lok Seva Bhavan on Tuesday, calling it a powerful symbol of India’s unity, courage, and national pride.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the song’s deep historical and emotional roots, noting that Vande Mataram—originally from Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel Ananda Math—had served as a unifying force during the country’s freedom struggle.
Majhi recalled how the British administration had once banned the singing of Vande Mataram, describing it as proof of the song’s “unparalleled power to awaken national consciousness.” He emphasized that its message of devotion to the motherland continues to inspire generations.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to actively participate in the year-long celebrations, which will include mass recitations, cultural programs, and awareness drives across districts, schools, colleges, and social organizations. The initiative, he said, seeks to instill patriotism among youth and strengthen the spirit of national integration.
“Vande Mataram rekindles the fire of patriotism that transcends language, religion, and region,” Majhi said. “It reminds us of our shared responsibility to uphold the glory of Mother India.”
The event marks a significant milestone in Odisha’s ongoing campaign to promote national values and unity through cultural heritage.
