Gurinder Singh Creates History With National Record Gold In Men’s 100m At Federation Cup

Bhubaneswar: Indian sprinter Gurinder Singh scripted history at the 2026 Athletics Federation Cup 2026 in Ranchi by winning the gold medal in the men’s 100 metres and setting a new national record.

Gurinder clocked an extraordinary time of 10.09 seconds in the final, becoming the first Indian athlete to breach the 10.10-second barrier in the men’s 100m event. The landmark performance established a new national record and marked one of the biggest achievements in Indian sprinting history.

The historic run came during the Federation Cup athletics meet held in Ranchi, where several top athletes from across the country competed for national honours and international qualification opportunities.

With his record-breaking timing, Gurinder surpassed the previous Indian national benchmark and further strengthened India’s emergence in short-distance sprint events, an area traditionally dominated by athletes from North America, the Caribbean, and parts of Africa.

Athletics experts described the performance as a major breakthrough for Indian track and field, noting that crossing the 10.10-second mark represents a significant global standard in elite sprinting.

The achievement is also expected to boost Gurinder Singh’s prospects ahead of upcoming international competitions, including Asian and world-level athletics events, while inspiring a new generation of Indian sprinters.
