Irresponsible Remarks on Puri Sri Mandir by Social Media Influencer

Bhubaneswar: We express deep disappointment over the recent statement made by social media influencer Subhankar Mishra, wherein he claimed that couples—married or unmarried—should not visit the Puri Sri Jagannath Temple together due to an alleged “curse” by Radha Rani. This assertion is not only factually baseless but also reflects a profound lack of understanding of Jagannath culture, traditions, and history.

The Sri Jagannath Temple is one of the most sacred and revered spiritual centers of India, visited daily by millions of devotees, including countless couples and families from across Odisha, the country, and the world. There exists no religious scripture, historical record, or authoritative evidence supporting the claim that visiting the temple together brings misfortune to conjugal relationships.

Such unfounded remarks appear to be a sensational tactic aimed at drawing cheap publicity by misusing the sanctity of a revered temple and the faith of its devotees. It is extremely concerning when individuals with significant public influence engage in the spread of misinformation on sensitive cultural and religious matters.

We strongly condemn any attempt to exploit sacred institutions, deities, and religious sentiments for personal fame. Spreading superstition, distorting cultural narratives, and playing with the emotions of people in the name of “content creation” is irresponsible and unacceptable.

The Jagannath culture represents inclusivity, devotion, and universal well-being. We urge all public figures to exercise caution, responsibility, and respect while speaking about matters of faith. Freedom of speech should not be misused to mislead the public or undermine centuries-old traditions grounded in devotion and harmony.

Issued in the interest of preserving the dignity, sentiment, and cultural integrity of the devotees of Lord Jagannath.
