Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s rich Jagannath tradition is set to reach a wider national and global audience through an ambitious animated feature film titled Mahaprabhu Jagannath, which will release across more than 300 screens in India.
The multilingual film, scheduled for release in Hindi, Odia, and Telugu, will mark the launch of the proposed “Sanatan Universe” — an interconnected mythological and spiritual entertainment franchise inspired by Hindu cultural narratives and devotional traditions.
Developed by Ele Animations Pvt. Ltd., the film is adapted from the popular animated television series Jay Jagannath and seeks to introduce younger audiences to the culture, philosophy, and mythology associated with Lord Jagannath through visually immersive storytelling.
According to the creators, the project has been designed as a cinematic blend of faith, heritage, mythology, and adventure aimed at preserving and promoting Odisha’s spiritual legacy among new generations.
The film is expected to showcase key elements of Jagannath culture, which is deeply associated with Jagannath Temple and the broader devotional traditions of Odisha.
The studio has also announced long-term plans to expand the “Sanatan Universe” through future animated and cinematic projects centered on Hindu deities including Lord Shiva, Hanuman, Ganesha, Kali, and Durga.
Beyond films, the initiative also includes plans for immersive cultural experiences in Puri, devotional music productions, educational platforms, and digital storytelling projects focused on Indian spiritual heritage and mythology.
Industry observers believe the project reflects a growing trend of combining traditional Indian cultural narratives with modern animation and cinematic technology to create large-scale family entertainment franchises rooted in indigenous storytelling traditions.
