Bhubaneswar: The Country was waiting for the verdict of the supreme court on the Waqf bill. The political leaders in all the opposition parties across the country were trying to stop this law from being passed.
The central government has asked the supreme court to grant one week time on the Waqf law. The supreme court has granted the same but with an order not to have any new recruits in the law within this time period. The solicitor general has agreed to the supreme court order.
The supreme court has also said that there should be a maximum of five matters on which a verdict will be delivered in a day. There were also decisions on having live streaming of the court proceedings on the Waqf law. The solicitor general has said that this law has been passed in the parliament and there has to be a fair verdict on this, not just a partial or sentimental decision to stop this law. This is not a normal action taken by the supreme court. This will be a very stringent step to immediately stop this law, whereas it has been passed in the parliament after a proper research, ground study, interaction with millions of people in the country. Villages are taken away in the name of Waqf property, people become homeless overnight. This is an ordeal of the common people. The supreme court should think minutely before stopping such a law. So the government has asked for one week’s time to explain the necessity and intention of this law to the court.
The supreme court agrees to hear all the pleas from the government side regarding the law but does not approve any further major changes in the law this week.
The Hindu leaders and lawyers question the supreme court to be partial towards the issue of Waqf Board and the muslims. Instead when it comes to the matter of Hindus, their properties and Boards the supreme court evidently has said in the past not to hear the matter rather it should be gone to the High court. The question arises whether the supreme court is being really partial towards the Waqf board and its lands.
