The Indian Music Industry: Past and Present

Bhubaneswar: Now one doesn’t have to stay or live in Mumbai to become a singer or make a career in singing. Today the internet, social media has made everything so easy, and accessible that the concept of playback singing has taken a back seat. New talents are getting opportunities in big films. Their songs and music are recognized and given a chance. It is a very blessed time to be in for artists. Different talent hunts and shows are also giving much needed exposure to the talents from various corners of the world.

In earlier times in the era of Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle the songs and music were to be listened first not to be watched. The singers were identified through their voices not by their appearance, style or anything else. In the present time more than singing the other things are given importance.

The current time period is such that the internet and reach of social media is getting into the minds of the young generation. They are ready to do anything and everything to be famous, to gain views. So the impact of social media and platforms carries a dual effect on the youth as well as the society.

Success and satisfaction are two different things which act differently for an artist. Success can fade, gobor transfers from one to another. Whereas satisfaction plays the part to keep the life within an artist ever even revived. So there has to be consistent determination and patience of performing well, or keep the craft intact.

Playback singing was such where the singer was the maker of the song, the tonality, the mood of the situation and according to the characterization and of the hero or the heroine etc. Now it’s all ready made songs. Everything is set, the choreographer has to do the job not the singer.
