Bhubaneswar: Several states across India are providing financial assistance ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹3 lakh to couples entering inter-caste marriages, as part of efforts to promote social integration and reduce caste-based discrimination.
At the national level, the Dr. Ambedkar Scheme for Social Integration through Inter-Caste Marriages supports such unions, particularly those involving a Scheduled Caste (SC) partner and a non-SC partner. The scheme aims to encourage social harmony while offering financial support to newly married couples.
Eligibility criteria generally require that the marriage be legally registered and, in most cases, that it is the first marriage for both individuals. Applicants are typically required to submit documents such as marriage certificates, caste certificates, identity proof, and bank details.
The application process involves submitting forms either through designated government offices or online portals, followed by document verification. Once approved, the financial assistance is transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
Officials note that while the broader objective remains consistent, the amount of assistance, eligibility conditions, and procedures may vary across states. The initiative is seen as a step toward fostering inclusive development and strengthening the social fabric.
